Capabilities
From the tallest to the smallest Architectural Designer Geoff
Brown has done it all – and his CV makes exciting reading.
Easy to talk to, one of Geoff’s greatest attributes is
his ability to listen, to take your wish list and translate it
into a design that meets all your requirements. In the nineteen
years that he has worked as an architectural designer he has gained
much both personally and professionally. He has worked on a wide
variety of projects, from large commercial projects to up-market
residential work, giving him an appreciation for design and building
systems and the ever changing raft of regulations governing them.
His resume features work done on large commercial buildings in
Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. Whilst working as a contract
draughtsman for CraigCraigMoller, Geoff supervised the construction
of ‘The Point’ apartment complex in Auckland, was
involved in construction documentation for Macau Tower and worked
on the developed design stages for Skycity Conference Centre and
Viaduct Point Apartment complex.
So what’s an architectural designer of Geoff’s calibre
doing in a small town like Whitianga?
Geoff & his wife Tracey (of Mercury Bay Business Assist,
conveniently located right next door) made the move to the Bay
four & a half years ago so that their children could appreciate
growing up in a small town. The whole family has become actively
involved in the community and particularly enjoys belonging to
the Hot Water Beach Lifeguard Service.
Just as he appreciates having a healthy environment for his family
to grow up in, Geoff has a strong interest in healthy and environmentally
friendly homes. His approach to environmentally sustainable design
is to work with nature rather than against it, moving beyond a
focus on efficiency towards innovative design solutions that are
more suited to the client and the site. Also considered are the
impacts of building design, construction and ongoing operation.
To develop a design solution, Geoff believes it is important
to keep focus on the needs of the client and keep them involved
from start to finish, so producing a design that suits them. He
is interested in the details and keeps a careful eye on making
sure that everything works. This professional approach is something
Geoff takes pride in.
Since its inception in 2003 Mercury Bay Design has been responsible
for a number of quality residential and commercial projects with
a distinct focus on executive waterfront housing.
One of the highlights from 2004 was preparing drawings the Ofafonua
Charity House project completed by Rod Percival of Auckland Registered
Master Builders. A bonus for Geoff from being involved with this
project was having his animations for the project featured unedited
on Holmes TV program. Geoff was also Winner of the First Time
Entrants Award in the ADNZ Waikato/Bay of Plenty Regional Awards
for 2006 for his Buffalo Beach Road entry and achieved Finalist
with the project in the national competition.
Geoff offers a full range of design and draughting services for
architecture, transforming your vision to reality. His three dimensional
computer based design process allows you to walk through your
project before you commit to working drawings so you can have
complete confidence in the completed project.
Geoff keeps his focus on offering the best service available
and therefore the best value for money. He is regularly recommended
by a number of reputable local builders and the local council.
Geoff has been self employed for over seven years and carries
Professional Indemnity Insurance. He is a Professional Member
of Architectural Designers New Zealand and a member of the New
Zealand Green Building Council.
Whether it’s a project of monumental proportions like the
Macau Tower or a modest holiday home Geoff has the skill and experience
to interpret your dreams and make them a reality which time –
and your neighbours – will truly appreciate.
